Palaikastro is a small village 18km east of SItia. The traditional village has a population of 1300 people and remains exempted from the mass tourism. In a close distance you can enjoy the beautiful and unspoiled seas of eastern Crete. There you can enjoy your swimming, fishing or summer sports. This place was called “the last paradise” by the famous sea explorer Jacques Cousteau as he realized that due to the sea currents the here you cane enjoy some of the clearest seas in the Mediterranean area. Most of the local beaches are part of the NATURA 2000 program to preserve the native biodiversity.
In east Crete you can still find places that will take away all your everyday problems.
